Background
History
Designed by John Hugenholtz as a Honda test track, Suzuka opened in September 1962 with its distinctive figure-of-eight layout. It hosted its first Japanese Grand Prix in 1987 and returned to the calendar in 2009 after two seasons at Fuji.
